United Methodist leaders in Nigeria and Liberia are caught in legal battles with the new Global Methodist Church over the ownership of United Methodist properties.
Bishop Samuel J. Quire of Liberia responded to protests following General Conference’s removal of bans on same-sex weddings and gay ordination. He is dealing with calls for the conference to hold a special session to vote on leaving, but such a meeting is not currently scheduled.
Though there are advocacy groups on both sides of the disaffiliation debate in the Liberian Conference, its bishop said he “will remain a United Methodist until otherwise ordered.”
